Simple Apple Galette

I love it when a recipe takes very little time to make, and uses up seasonal fruits. That's why I love Galette's! My Simple Apple Galette is great for all seasons, especially in the Fall when there are an abundance of apples. I like my Galette's more on the rustic side, so I don't do anything fancy, but that's a personal preference. But, I do like to slice my apples and make a beautiful design when I am serving it at a party, and pair it with vanilla ice cream and some caramel sauce. You can also add other fruits, like plums, blueberries or pears with the apples-all so delicious! Have fun and enjoy!

Simple Apple Galette

Pre-heat oven: 400 degrees F

Prep-time: 10 minutes

Bake-time: 40-50 minutes

Total-time: 60 minutes

Equipment: Pie dish, large baking bowl, wooden spoon, cutting board, paring knife, zester, measuring spoons, pastry brush, cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 store bought pie crust, room temperature

  • 6 medium apples, cored and chopped

  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice + zest (about half a lemon)

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour or cornstarch

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder, I use Ceylon cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar

  • 1 tbsp raw and unfiltered honey

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp non-dairy milk, or regular milk

  • cane sugar, or monk fruit sweetener, or coconut sugar

Directions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Take the store bought pie crust out of the fridge and let it get close to room temperature. *You can use one or you can double the batch and use both crusts.

  3. Lightly grease, or butter, your pie dish and set it aside.

  4. Core and chop your apples and place them in a large bowl. Next, zest your lemon onto the apples and then squeeze the juice from the lemon over the apples. Use your wooden spoon to stir the apples and lemon zest and juice together. *Lemon juice helps stop the apples from turning brown and adds a nice flavor.

  5. Next, add the rest of the ingredients to the apples and lemon mixture. Stir everything together until the apples are well coated. Let it sit for a few minutes.

  6. Unroll your pie crust and gently lay it flat inside the pie dish. Use a fork to poke several holes on the bottom to allow steam to release while baking. Then, pour your apple mixture onto the pie crust bottom. Use the wooden spoon to help level the apples.

  7. Now, begin to fold and overlap the edges of the pie crust on top of the apple mixture, while keeping the center of the Galette open.

  8. In a small dish, add your milk, then use a pastry brush to dip the brush into the milk. Brush the milk over the edges of the pie crust, then sprinkle some sugar over everything.

  9. Bake for about 40-50 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the crust is a rich golden brown.

  10. Allow to cool on a cooling rack for about 20 minutes.

  11. Enjoy as is, or with some whip cream, ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
