These hamburger buns are similar to a brioche bun, slightly sweet, soft but with a somewhat hard crust. This recipe is simple, and done less than an hour n half. They freeze really well after cooling completely.

I love a good gourmet burger, and these types of buns are sure to uplift your meal. My favorite part about this recipe is how fast it takes. But if you're like me, always on the go, it's easy to make ahead, freeze, then pull out to defrost when ready for some hamburgers.
Hamburger Buns
Yields: 8 buns
Oven temp: 400 degrees F.
Rise time: 20 minutes
Bake time: 15-20 minutes
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour (500 grams)
1 package instant yeast (7 grams)
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
2 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 cup whole milk (or oat milk), warm
1 cup water, warm
1 egg, room temperature
Directions
In a medium or large liquid measuring cup, combine water and milk. Microwave for about 45 seconds until warm, not hot. Add the yeast and sugar, lightly stir then let it sit for about 5 minutes.
Using a stand mixer, with the dough hook attachment, add the flour, salt and egg. Mix on medium to low speed until the ingredients are incorporated.
Next, add in the butter and mix for about 30 seconds. Then, slowly add in the water mixture with the speed on medium.
Knead the dough for about 8 minutes. The dough should come together soft and somewhat sticky.
While you wait for the dough, line a baking sheet pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
Dump on a lightly floured surface and knead again for about 30 seconds, to release any air bubbles.

7. Using your hands, form the dough into a ball, then cut into 8 pieces. If you have a food scale, try to measure each piece to be around 125-130 grams.
8. Place the pieces on the prepared pan to rise. Lightly spray nonstick oil on plastic wrap and then cover, using the sprayed side over the dough to avoid a crust layer. Cover the plastic wrap with a kitchen towel. Let the dough rise for about 20 minutes.

9. Preheat the oven to 400 degree F.
10. If you want, you can brush some milk (or oat milk) over the tops of each bun, then bake for about 15-20 minutes, depending on your oven. Let them bake until they are a nice golden color.
11. Let them cool on a cooling rack. When you are ready to prepare your burger, slice them and enjoy!
12. If you choose to freeze them, make sure to cool them completely, then wrap them in foil or plastic wrap, then in a freezer bag.
They are in the oven now :) I even did it all without a stand mixer, they look great! I’m so excited
